[Sidney News.]
John A. McCune, one of the best known residents of Sidney, died at his home on North Miami avenue about 7 o'clock Tuesday morning, after an illness of only a few days.
Mr. McCune was born south of Gettysburg, Darke county, April 21, 1833, and resided on a farm until he was about twenty-one years of age. He then left the farm walking to Piqua, where he learned the trade of a bricklayer which he worked at most of his life. After learning his trade he moved to Sidney, where he had since resided.
November 30, 1858, he was married to Mary Ellen Coy, who with six children survive him. The surviving children are Frank McCune, of Kosciusko, Mississippi: W. A. McCune, of Sidney; Mrs. B. F. Parker, of St. Paul, Minnesota; Harry McCune, of Lima; Mrs. Elmer Wilson of Sidney, and Ed McCune, of Centralia, Illinois.
Mr. McCune is the last one of the McCune brothers who worked at the brick laying trade in this city for many years, contracting and erecting many of the most substantial building about the city. Among them are the central school building, the country infirmary building, the Taylor Block and the Monumental building. On account of his advanced age he had not worked at his trade for the past several years and just recently returned from a visit with his daughter at St. Paul.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church and by his death Sidney loses one of her old and substantial citizens. The funeral services will be held at his late home Friday afternoon.
