Veteran of World Wars I and II, as well as Korea. West Point class of 1924. Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Purple Heart. A respected pilot who earned a reputation during WWII for his innovative air combat methods, he was also wounded in ground combat in both WWI and WWII. Played a major role in the WWII Aleutian Islands campaign as an aerial combat commander.

The US Air Force's Eareckson Air Station, on Shemya Island in the Aleutian Islands, is named after COL Eareckson.
