Irene Brown Lewis, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, departed this life on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynard Lewis Sr., and daughter, Phyllis Lewis. She was a faithful member of the Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church for 40 years where she served in the Senior Missions and Progressive Ministries. She was a student of the first graduating class of Central High School Class of 1948, and serves as secretary of the alumni class.
She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Cordell Lewis, Reynard (Georgia) Lewis, Michael and Calvin Lewis, all of Mobile; four daughters, Beverly (Charles) Montgomery, Richmond, CA, Linda (James) Johnson, Cynthia Harvey and Irene (Patterson) Owens, all of Mobile; one devoted sister, Willie Mae Simmons, Mobile; two brothers, Willie Brown and Henry (Susie) Brown, both of Mobile; one brother in law, Onie Washington, San Francisco, CA; one sister in law, Betty Lewis Mosley, Mobile; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her remains may be viewed at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home Friday, March 5, 2010 from 12-5pm and continued Saturday at Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church at 9am. The family will receive friends from 10-11am funeral hour with Pastor P.H. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery.
