Funeral for Rev. N.Z. Abbott, 76, pioneer Baptist pastor of Young County, were conducted from the Graham First Baptist Church with Rev. W.W. Copeland of Azle and Rev. Roy E. Ladd of Jacksboro officiating. Interment was in Pioneer cemetery under the direction of Maples F.H.

Rev. Abbott died Friday following a heart attack.

Rev. Abbott was born in Seneca, SC and his parents were the late M/M W.T. Abbott. When a young child, the family moved to Atlanta where he received his early education.

As a young man he served with the First South Carolina Volunteers in the Spanish American War. Later, he returned to SC to serve as foreman for a bridge construction company. He married Miss Daisy Parsons at Central, South Carolina in 1900.

The young couple moved to Mallard, Texas in 1903 where Mr. Abbott served as stationary engineer operator for the Mallard Cotton Gin until 1913.

In 1911 he was baptized in the Mallard Baptist Church and in 1913 he was licensed to preach. One year later, Rev. Abbott was ordained. He served as pastor for the Mallard, Long Bean and Dye Mound churches. In 1920 he went to Throckmorton as pastor of the Fairview and Bush Knob Baptist churches.

In 1922, his first wife died while he was serving as pastor in Throckmorton, Texas. In 1926 Rev. Abbott moved to Jean to pastor the Baptist Church for four years.

N.Z. Abbott married Josephine "Jennie" Adams in Jean, TX, on 6 February 1929. One child, Robert D. Abbott was born to this union.

Following his pastorate at Jean, Rev. Abbott served for 21 years in the supply pastor field filling pulpits whenever needed; as well as conducting revivals. In 1949, Rev. Abbott, with 14 members, organized the Bethel Baptist church in Graham and in 1951, he became their permanent pastor, in which capacity he was serving when he became ill last week.

Survived: his wife, six sons Warren Thorwell Abbott, Norman Otis, Hugh Quinn, Charles Lynton, Theron D., Robert D. of Graham; step-son Henry Adams of Graham; four daughters Mrs. Ruth Ernestine Jones; Mrs. Josphine Elizabeth Millican, Mrs. Grace Garvin Swaim, Mrs. Ina Mae Baldwin; Mrs. Nellie Hash; 16 grand; 14 great.

Four sisters: Mrs. Ina Sifford; Mrs. Mittie Masters, Mrs. Bertie Shaw and Mrs. Mae Justice.
