The Lord probably thought Heaven needed more laughter on Feb 21, 2010, when he took Ione Chinn home.
Ione, ever young at the age of 95, with a clear, sharp mind and a sense of humor befitting a much, much younger person, enjoyed her volunteer duties as Greeter at the Senior Center for over twenty two years. She loved dancing and selling tickets for the senior dances.
She was born September 28, 1914, in Beemer, Neb., to Charles and Martha Toelle. She was one of 5 children, all who preceded her in death. Ione married the love of her life, Oliver James Anderson, whom she met at a barn dance. In 1944, Ollie and Ione moved to a ranch in the Sandhills of Nebraska (Johnstown) where they were in partnership with Louis Dinklage, a cattle feeder, from Wisner, Neb. Ollie eventually became mayor and county commissioner. He passed away in 1957 at the young age of 45. Ione moved to Fort Collins in 1967 with her son. She became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a life-long member. In 1972, she married Jack Chinn who preceded her in death in 1978.
While Ione loved children and as a young woman wanted 12 of them, she had 3. She took her role as homemaker and mother seriously, always supporting and encouraging her children's interests and talents. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed playing Sudoku.
She enjoyed fine dining and jazz concerts in Denver and jazz festivals in the mountains with her daughters. One man was amazed that an 89 year old would sit under a rain poncho on a cold rainy day in Breckenridge, all the while keeping her feet moving to the beat of the music!
She loved to travel and the highlights for her were gifts from her son…a trip to retrace her roots in Germany to find the castle where her grandmother was born. She also reveled in the Alpine splendor of the Wengen region of Switzerland. The trip was repeated two years later with all of her children. This was a true family event, which included visiting the church where her grandmother was baptized and sipping a glass of German wine on a river trip down the Rhine. At the age of 85, she took a trip down the Yampa River on an inner tube!
Her spirit for life and sense of humor will be missed by family and friends. She is survived by 3 children, 7 great-grandchildren; and her beloved Molly, the Maltese.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program (providing food, simple medicines, clothing, fabric and yarns to help the Elders live on the land in their traditional Native American lifestyle) in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
