ALGONQUIN – Vivyonne Eloise (Ekstrum) Ahlquist, 93, of Montgomery, recently of Eastgate Manor in Algonquin, passed away Feb. 25, 2010, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minn., to C. Edward and Anna Christine (Peterson) Ekstrum. She graduated from South High School in Minneapolis, Bethel College and Mounds-Midway School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minn.
She married Gerald Robert Ahlquist on June 27, 1944. He passed away June 22, 2003. They celebrated 59 years together. She was a registered nurse who worked at Mounds Park Hospital, St. Paul; St. Cloud VA Hospital as director of nursing, St. Cloud, Minn.; Aurora College as the college nurse; and at Mercyville, Aurora.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Judy (Gregory) Mayer of Rock Island and Jan (David) Beagley of Crystal Lake. She was a loving grandmother to Kristine A. Mayer of Rock Island, G. Allen (Carey) Mayer of Peoria, David R. Beagley of Ames, Iowa, and Jon (Callie) Beagley of Fairfax, Va.; and great-grandmother of Conrad and Katherine Mayer. She also will be missed by her sister-in-law, Viriginia Ahlquist of West St. Paul; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives; and by her many friends. She enjoyed caring for and visiting with her family and many friends, playing the piano, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
The visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, before the 10 a.m. funeral. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
