Allen W. Carter was born in Lowndes County, Georgia.Allen was the son of John Carter,Sr. and Lavinia Carter.
Allen married Sarah Elizabeth Corbett before 1873. She was the daughter of Franklin and Winnie Stewart Corbett.
Allen and Sarah had the following children:
1. Hansford Franklin "Moss" Carter who married Zoia Amelia Porter.
2.George "Buddy" Carter
3.Laura Carter who married James E. Miller
4. Elizabeth "Liza" Carter who married Barney Stephen Carter.
5.Wylie C. Carter who married Beulah Carter
6.Alfred W. Carter who married Lola I Hughes
7.Sarah E. "Sallie" Carter who married Samuel Crews.
8.Seletha "Lissie" Carter who married Lawson Peterson
9. Kizzie Carter who married Elzie J. Corbett
Allen Carter was a faithful Confederate soldier. He enlisted at Charleston, South Carolina, Company "K" 32nd. Georgia Infantry Regiment. His company surrendered at Columbia, South Carolina and he was discharged at Pocotaligo, South Carolina.
Allen and his wife Sarah were buried at Carter Cemetery, Echols County, Georgia.
On Saturday , November 20, 1999, Allen was one of four confederate soldiers honored in a ceremony at Carter cemetery. At that time a special marker was placed at his gravesite recognizing his service.
