Civil War Union Major General. Grandson of Rev. War Hero Ethan Allen. A distinguished soldier before the Civil War, he fought in The Seminole Wars, and was Winfield Scott's inspector general during the Mexican War. Served as Commissioner of Prisoner Exchange until the exchange program broke down in the third year of the war.
