"Funeral Services for Mrs. Wernli Are Held Sunday. ...Mrs. Wernli died Friday, August 11, at a San Antonio hospital after an illness of about three weeks. Numerous operations and the skill of the medical profession failed to save her after she was stricken...Rosa Wernli was born December 27, 1877 at Solothurn, Switzerland. In 1901 she was united in marriage to Gottlieb Wernli, the ceremony taking place in Switzerland. Soon after the young couple came to American and in 1905 settled in Karnes county, where six daughters and one son were born to the union. Mr. and Mrs. Wernli and the family engaged in the farming business near Monteola, where the family home was established. Gottlieb Wernli preceded his wife in death in 1928, and since that time Mrs. Wernli had kept the family home. She was a member of the order of the Sisters of Hermann Sons, and was prominent in business, church and social circles of this section. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. During her long residence in Karnes county, she and her charming family made many lifelong friends, who loved and honored her and her family."
