DEATH OF WADE CARLTON
Rev. Wade Carlton, one of the most dearly beloved ministers in the Memphis conference, died here Saturday afternoon about 3 o'clock, following a long and painful illness. Brother Carlton was about fifty-four years of age. In early life he was united in marriage to Miss Edna Smith. He was the son of the late Rev. Tom Carlton.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Gleason Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. T. Holley, assisted by Rev. A. B. Jones, of Dresden, Presiding Elder H. B. Johnston and Revs. W. F. Wynne and J. M. Pickens. The service was the most impressive ever held here. all the ministers paid tributes to the character of their deceased fellow worker.
Several months ago, Mr. Carlton was operated upon for stomach trouble, a portion of the stomach being removed. Since then he had lived exclusively upon a liquid diet, but for the past three months he had been confined to his bed. He was a man greatly admired of all who knew him and a strong, forceful preacher. He was born and reared in this community, where he was universally popular, and there are many sympathizing friends here who condole with the bereaved companion in her great sorrow.
The remains were laid to rest in Hopewell cemetery, services at the grave being conducted by Rev. A. B. Jones of Dresden.
