Calvin was in the cattle business and farmed at Goliad, but lost his herd during the Civil War. He went to Washington Co., Texas and then to Itasca, TX. He returned to Virginia for a year, then traveled with his brother John Anderson Calfee to Henry County, MO, where they resided for a year. In the fall of 1871, he returned to Texas and settled 20 miles west of Itasca. Calvin was a delegate to the Democratic Congressional Convention.
