M E Brooks Rites Are Conducted In Itasca Wednesday

Last rites for M.E. Brooks, 82, of Files Valley, who passed away at his residence Tuesday, March 7, at 7:15 AM, were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 PM, from the Hollingsworth and Marshall Chapel in Itasca.
Rev. Tom Brown, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Itasca, and Rev. W. T. Anderson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Itasca, were the officiating ministers.
Matthew Ervin Brooks was a native of Alabama. He was born in Springfield on May 9, 1884, the son of Weldon and Rebecca Ellis Brooks.
He was the father of Sheriff Ernest Brooks of Hillsboro and Mrs. Fern Weaver of Itasca-Files Valley. He was the brother of Mrs. J.M. Hooper of Itasca.
Mr. Brooks came to Texas as a young man, settling in Williamson County. He moved to this community in 1919 and had resided in this area since that time.
He was married to Miss Fannie Hotchens in 1904. She preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1948.
For many years Mr. Brooks was engaged in farming. He had been retired for a number of years.
He was a longtime member of the Methodist Church, having joined the Church as a young man.
Interment was in the Itasca Cemetery under direction of Hollingsworth and Marshall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Mr. Brook's grandsons.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest Brooks of Hillsboro, and Sam Brooks of Fort Worth; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Tippton of Dallas, and Mrs. Fern Weaver of Itasca.
Among other survivors are two brothers, Gus Brooks of Fort Worth, and John Brooks, of San Antonio. Four sisters, Mrs. J.M. (Dora) Hooper of Itasca; Mrs. Maggie Hodge of Alabama; Mrs. John McCall of Aspermont, and Mrs. Mecie Revis of Enid, Oklahoma.
There are ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
