Mary was the second child of seven of her parents Major Philip John Ghost and Barbara Ann Keltz.

She married James W. Huffman, a Wagon Maker & Agricultural Toolmaker, during 1798 in Venango Co., PA. His parents were German born.

Between 1801 and 1824 James & Mary had 6 boys and 5 girls. They named these children; Barbara, Adam, Mary, John, James, Daniel, Philip, Jacob, Elizabeth, Christina and Catherine (Huffman or Hoffman).

Some of their children kept the German version of the family sir name, "Huffman", while others adopted the more popular American version of "Hoffman".

Mary Ann's sister (Christena) married her husband's (James) brother Phillip Huffman.
