John Cain

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Drain Assembly of God Church for John E. Cain of Drain, who died Feb. 22 of age-related causes. He was 79. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Inurnment will be at Drain Cemetery.

He was born July 12, 1930, in Dighton, Kan., to Carl and Adie Stittsworth Cain. He married Betty Harker Dec. 23, 1953, in Vancouver, Wash.

He attended school in Drain. He served with the military police in the U.S. Army during the early 1950s, and was stationed in Japan.

He was a city police officer in Drain for a short time, but spent most of his career in the timber industry, driving log trucks for Woolley Logging for several years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Bailey of Roseburg and Katherine Fugate of Drain; a son, Ron of Roseburg; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Jerry, died previously.
