Capt. Marcus R. Alford, 28, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Feb. 21 in Qayyarah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter had a hard landing. The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 230th Cavalry Regiment, Louisville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Mrs. Charley Mae Ray, Mr. MaceoAlford, Sr. and Mrs. Clara Mae Alford; aunt, Mrs. Jennifer Marie Ray Davis;uncle, Mr. Steven Ray; great-uncle, Mr. Joseph Mobley and great-grandparents,Mr. Charles and Sally Mae Mobley, Mr. Jacob (Rachel) and Anna Ray.Left to cherish his memories are loving family; mother, Ms. Karen Ray of Knoxville,Tennessee; father, Mr. Michael Alford of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two children, Ms.Mya Alford and Mr. Marcus Alford, Jr.; brother, Mr. Jerry (Jane) Ray; grandparent,Mr. Richard Ray; nephews, Michael, Jerry II, and Richard; niece, Trieste; aunt, Ms.Crystal Ray all of Knoxville; uncle, Mr. Maceo (Valarie) Alford, Jr. of Detroit, MI;great-aunts, Mrs. Margie Alford Keese of Knoxville, TN, Ms. Deborah Mobley ofChicago, IL, Mrs. Shandia (SGM Roy) Middlebrook, US Army, El Paso, TX,Mrs. Jo Evelyn Liggett of Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Luella Kelley, Mrs. Betty (William)Poole, Mrs. Helen (James) Greenlee and Mrs. Debra Ray all of Knoxville, TN; greatgrandaunt, Mrs. Isabelle Freeman, OH; great-uncles, Mr. Nakia (Lisa) Mobley and Mr. David (Deborah) Ray of Knoxville, TN; great-granduncle, Mr. Luther (Maria) Fortson of Ravenna, devoted cousin, Sergeant Ettienne (Jennifer) Ray serving in Afghanistan; cousins, Ayanna and Kiona Ray of Fort Campbell, KY; a host of devoted cousins, relatives and friends.
