Mary Lavisa Myers (Minnie)was born on January 9,1867 near Homer, William Myers and Hannah Gutherie-Myers. Who were Pioneer residents of Hamilton County. She had six sisters Louise Emma,Margaret J.,Lizzie,Lydia,(name unkown) and two brothers Robert William and Luther.She was raised in the Homer area.As a young girl she became a member of the United Brethren Church.And was an active member all her life.
Minnie married William David Adams (W.D.)on December 31,1888 in Homer,iowa.They had six children in Webster City,Iowa.Edger Lee,Estey Lavern,Bessie Fern,Zefie Birdie,Ervin Truie and Mae.Mae Was just 7 months old when she died on June 5,1901 and is buried at the Saratoga Cemetery ,Hamilton County.
Then they moved to Cleo Springs,Oklahoma and lived there for eight years. W.D. was a minister in this area. While there three more children were born. Stanley Herold,Clarence M. and Ruby. The family moved back to Iowa. Ruby passed away on April 21,1908,she is buried at the Saratoga Cemetery were her sister Mae is buried.The family moved to a farm in the Mt.Zion area. Were W.D. farmed. He had retired from the ministery.
In 1931 the family moved to an acerage north of Webster City,Iowa.
Minnie was widely known in the community. She had red hair.She was a Sunday school teacher,and took part in church activities. She was also a midwife and went out to help deliver babies even in the winter. A story told by her son Stanley,he said the he drove his mother Min to deliver a baby in the winter by horse and sleigh in snow so deep that you could only see the tops of the fence post.She helped people when ever and how ever she could .
Mary Lavisa (Minnie),passed away on Monday March 20,1933 at 11:50A.m., at her home on Fox Rd.Near Kendell Young Park,Webster City,Iowa.She had been seriously ill for two weeks, and in poor health for many years do to Diabetes. Her funeral was held on Wednesday March 22,1933 at the United Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m.. A breif service was held at her home at 2:00 p.m. The service was officiated by Rev.L.F.Church. She was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City,Iowa.
At the time of her death Mary left behind a husband W.D. Adams.Three daughters Estey Lavern Ruhl,Zephie Birdie Ruhl both of Webster City. Bessie Fern Killingsworth of Homer,Iowa.And five sons Edger Lee,Napa,California,Stanley Herold of Sisters,Oregon.And Clarence M.,Okley (Mike),Truie Ervie (T.E)of Webster City,Iowa.
She had thirty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.(With many more to follow in the coming years).
She was proceded in death by Her parents William and Hannah Myers.Two children Mae and Ruby. And her brother Robert William Myers passed away just 2 weeks before her in March 1933.
