Margaret Elizabeth Burt Madden

RUSTON, LA - On Monday, February 22, 2010, in Shreveport, Louisiana, our dear, sweet Mother went home to be with the Lord. She was a true southern lady with a gentle spirit, whose family held her in high esteem. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana, officiated by Dr. Andy Johnson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24 at 12:30 P.M. until time of the service. Interment will be in Simsboro Cemetery.

Margaret was born June 9, 1914, in Simsboro, Louisiana, to Robert Emmett and Marie (Strain) Burt. She was a graduate of Simsboro High School, attended Dodd College in Shreveport and was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

In 1936, Margaret married Ragan Madden and together they reared three children in Ruston. Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Ruston for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a charter member of the Garden Study Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Emmett and Marie Burt; husband, Ragan D. Madden; brothers, William (Billy) Burt and Robert Burt; sister, Frances Burt White; granddaughter and namesake, Margaret Elizabeth Harrison.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Burt Madden of Little Rock, Arkansas; her daughters, Betty Madden Harrison and husband, John; and Marilyn Madden Hill, both of Shreveport; grandsons, Dr. David Harrison and wife, Jennifer of Morristown, Tennessee; Keith Harrison of Shreveport; granddaughter, Anne Sutton and husband, Jay of Shreveport; great-grandson, Ragan Harrison of Morristown, Tennessee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Honoring Margaret as pallbearers will be John Harrison, son-in-law; Dr. David Harrison and Keith Harrison, grandsons; Jay Sutton, grandson-in-law; Robert Burt and Bill Burt, nephews.

A special word of thanks is extended to Dr. Pete Blanchard and Vickey Burnett for their excellent care over the years. We also want to thank Mother's sitters: Rosemary, Faye, Kema, Cherry, and Odyssey Healthcare.
