Floyd Benjamin Simmons was the eldest son of Jonathan Simmons and Dorothy Evelyn Bridgwater. While still and infant, Floyd was taken to Kansas by his parents. His mother passed away in 1903. In 1907, Floyd and his father drove a team and wagon overland from Barber Co., Kansas, to Gering, Scotts Bluff Co., Nebraska, then made their way to Lowell Township in Sioux County where they homesteaded and bachelor ranched a few years in that location. Floyd had 640 acres, being Section 34 in Township 25 north of Range 54 west of the 6th Principal Meridian. Jonathan had most of Section 27, short by 40 acres. Floyd's younger sisters, Vergie and Lula, joined them but made the trip by coach. Both married away soon after. Floyd was married on 30 August 1913 in Gering, Nebraska, to Pearl Effie Reed who was born on 31 July 1896 in Crawford, Nebraska, daughter of Henry Roswell Reed and Hannah Bovee. By 1918, they were living in Scottsbluff; Floyd was farming in the area. They were the parents of three boys, Floyd Henry Simmons, Virgil Glenn Simmons who married Jeanne Irvine, and Vern Franklin Simmons who married Mary Anna Feagins. After Floyd died, Pearl was married to Bart B. Brown, and later to a Mr. French. She remained in the area and died on 10 December 1974, a resident of Alliance in Box Butte County.
