A collision at the corner of Ninth and Deahl Streets between a 1951 Buick and a bicycle resulted in the death of Derrell Pierce, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Pierce, of Borger.
Derrell, a city salesman for the Borger News-Herald, was thrown from his bicycle Friday night and apparently hit his head against the curb, fatally injuring him.
According to the investigating officers, the Buick, driven by Mrs. Cathryn G. Bailey, 116 Second St., Phillips, was going south on Deahl when little Derrell ran out in front of her. The accident was listed as unavoidable in the accident report.
Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Pierce, 927 Hedgecoke; two brothers, Jackie and George Pierce, and one sister, Patsy, all of Borger; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Pierce of Borger; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula Belle Sullivan, Sundown, Tex., aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Sullivan and Mrs. Sybil Sullivan, all of Borger; and other relatives.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Fellowship Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles E. McDowell, officiating.
Interment will be made in Highland Park cemetery under the direction of Blackburn-Shaw-Brown Funeral Home.
