At the age of 19, in 1912, she fell in love with and married Owen Cecil Williams, son of Alice and John Williams of Ewing, Illinois. They moved to Mississippi shortly thereafter, where Rev. Owen Williams served as Minister of the Gospel in Noxubee County, Mississippi. There were eight children born to this union: Harry, Elizabeth “Titee,” Joseph, Owen Jr., Rebecca, Katherine “Kitti,” Rachel, and Martha “Cissi.”
In 1923, Rev. Owen Williams became pastor of Utica Baptist Church, Utica, Hinds, Mississippi. During his 28 years as pastor, membership increased from 154 to 384. Rev. Williams led through the Depression, World War II and Korea, when Utica had many young men and women away at war. He served longer than any other pastor, retiring in 1951. Rev. Williams died in 1958 at the age of 71.
Mamie Myrtella McChesney Williams died at the age of 90 on January 3, 1983. She was Buried at Utica Cemetery with husband Rev. Owen Williams.
