Joseph Hunt died Feb. 22, 2003 in Winslow.

He was born Jan. 20, 1911 in Taylor to Alma M. and Nancy McCleve Hunt. He grew up on a farm and learned many skills there. He graduated from Snowflake High School. He was a lifetime member of the LDS church and served a two-year mission in the Northern States Mission from 1931 to 1933. In 1934, Joe started his career by working in the bridge and building department of the Santa Fe Railroad. He then transferred to the transportation department and retired as a conductor in 1974.

Joe and Ida Neu were married in 1938 have two children; son Edward and daughter, Carolyn Haney. Together they served a five-year mission for the Church in the Arizona Temple in Mesa. Then they served another mission in the Winslow area as Stake missionaries for 18 months.

Joe has been an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. After retiring, the Hunts enjoyed many tours, visiting most of the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska; touring Europe, Israel, Mexico, Canada and a Caribbean cruise. He belonged to the B of RT organization and was a member of Elks Lodge No. 536 at one time; Navajo County Historical Society and AARP, among other organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Hunt; son, Edward Joe (Sharon) of Covina, California; daughter, Carolyn (Curtis) Haney of Winslow; grandchildren, Jode Bailey of Flagstaff, Derek (Laura) Hunt of Lakewood, California, Samantha, Phillip, Megan and Kelleen, all Haneys of Winslow; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Sean Bailey, Corri and Ryleen Hunt; sister, Laura Saline of Taylor; sister-in-law, Arlene Demmer of Madison, South Dakota.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Winslow Stake Center with Bishop Tim DeWitt officiating.

Interment will be in Desert View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Joe's name to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Arrangements are under the direction of Greer's Scott Mortuary of Winslow.
