Businessman, US Senator. He founded the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Newark, New Jersey in 1875, and helped build it into a mulit-million dollar company. He was elected as a Senator from New Jersey to the United States Senate to fill the vacany caused by the death of Senator William J. Sewell, and served from 1902 to 1907.
