"Grover C Clark..... was the grandson of Richard Clark and great grandson of Benjamin Clark, who came to Haywood County from Danville, Virginia in 1790, and settled where Canton is now located. Benjamin became prominent in county politics and represented the county in the State Legislature in 1822.
"Grover's mother, Rachel Ferguson Clark, was the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Emaline Rogers Ferguson. She was a descendant of Annie Laurie of the famous Scottish love ballad.
"Grover's first wife, Nora, died soon after their son Davis Rowe Clark was born;;;;;
"Grover farmed, raised stock, logged and dealt in real estate and Bonnie taught school in the White Oak community during their early years of marriage. ...
"In 1930 the White Oak school closed and Bonnie went to teach at Fines Creek School and (their daughter) Groveneenrolled in the first grade there.
"Grover's son, Davis Rowe, joined the Navy in 1934. In 1937 he was killed in an automobile accident in Panama. He had one of the first military funerals in Haywood County. So many people came to the funeral that it had to be held outside the church.
"In 1938 Grover sold his farm on White Oak and the family moved to a farm he had bought in Waynesville. He farmed about four years before selling this farm to the State for a test farm (that farm is now known as the Mountain Experimental Station). Grover continued to work as a Realton and Bonnie taught at the Dellwood and Hazelwood schools. Grovene finished high school at Waynesville Township High School in 1942 and enrolled at Mars Hill College in the fall.
"In May 1943, when Grover was sixty years old and Bonnie was forty-seven their son William Clark was born. Bonnie died in 1949 when William was five years old and Grover died the following year.
"Grovene had married Edwin Russell of Clyde in 1945 and they reared William along with their own two children..... Grovene graduated from Western Carolina College. She taught thirty-seven years in the Haywood County schools before retiring in 1990.
"William became a medical doctor.......
