William Lewis Dayton

Birth:	Feb. 17, 1807
Death:	Dec. 1, 1864
US Senator. He was elected as a Senator from New Jersey to the United States Senate, serving from 1842 to 1851. In 1856 he ran as Republican John C. Fremont's Vice Presidential candidate, thus become the very first Republican to run for that office.
