Veteran of World War I. Husband of MARY CHAPMAN CLAYTON.
His obituary appears in The Spartanburg Hearld Obituary Section on, April 18, 1948, on A2.
JOHN W. CLAYTON, 61, died at his home in Pacolet Route 1 Saturday night after a year's illiness. Mr. CLAYTON was a native of Spartanburg County and was a son of the late WILLIE and NANCY WILLIAMS CLAYTON. He was employed at Pacolet Mills for 30 years, retiring one year ago. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. MARY CHAPMAN CLAYTON; 2 sisters, Mrs. BERTIE GOWAN of Spartanburg and Mrs. LELIA MARTIN of Inman; 3 brothers, BELVIN CLAYTON of Greer, EBER CLAYTON of Taylors and SOLOMON CLAYTON of Laurens. Funeral arrangements will be announced by teh J. F. Floyd Mortuary.
