United States Army Specialist 4 Amoss was killed in the Vietnam War. Russell served in A Company, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.
Russell was squad leader when killed in the early morning hours of January 31st, 1968 at the very beginning of the TET offensive. Russell was ambushed by enemy small arms fire from an AK47 at roughly the intersection of highways 15 and 36 in the village of Ho Nai near Long Binh.
Russell is honored on the Vietnam Memorial Wall 35E085.
