John Thomas Collier was the minister of the Algoma Street Methodist Episcopal Church from 1920-1925. Prior to that time he served at Crandon, Wisconsin which was his first pastorate, beginning in 1914. He was admitted as "minister on trial" to begin his service. He emigrated from Helbsy, Cheshire, England in 1913, where he had been a layman for much of his life.
He was the only son of John and Sarah (Parkington) Collier, and the grandson of John and Mary (Ellis) Sweetman Collier. Two of his Collier grandfather's siblings had also emigrated to Wisconsin, in 1850s and lived in Racine and Kenosha Counties, Wisconsin. He married Mary Bowyer on 15 April 1895 at St. Paul's, Helbsy, Cheshire, England. They were the parents of one child, Winifred Mary Collier.
