Funeral services for Jewell Lela (Tiffin) Hall, 92, of Portales, will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2010, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Dunsworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Bob Townsend, Rich Smith, Keith Berry, Kendell Esch, Joel Hagood, and Jonathan Hall serving as pallbearers. The Hall family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Heartland Continuing Care Center for all the support and care that they provided in her later years.
Jewell Lela Hall was born December 16, 1917, in Maude, OK, to Effie and Arthur Tiffin and died February 13, 2010, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales, NM. The family moved to Clovis in 1927, and later to Ranchvale where she completed high school. Jewell attended Eastern New Mexico Junior College in 1937-38. On February 18, 1939 in Clovis, she married Raymond Hall. They made their home in Clovis until 1949, when they moved to Portales. She and Mr. Hall were married more than 60 years before his death in 1999. She was a member of the University Baptist Church.
Jewell loved music and could sing and play the piano as well as the accordion. For many years, she accompanied her husband, Raymond, in many entertaining performances and at numerous funerals in the Portales area. For a number of years Mrs. Hall was employed at ENMU as a housekeeper. Jewell enjoyed crocheting and doing needlepoint projects as well as oil painting. Mrs. Hall was a loving mother, and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Don (Janet) Hall of Rome, NY, and Gary (Diane) Hall of Tucson, AZ; a daughter and son-in-law, Joann (Paul) Esch of Levelland, TX; 4 grandchildren, Kendell (Wendy) Esch of Levelland, TX, Kimberly (Joel) Hagood of Levelland, TX, Jonathan Hall of Colorado Springs, CO, and David (Danielle) Hall of Syracuse, NY, and five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Triston Hagood, Austin and Keely Esch, and Addison Hall; two brothers, Arthur Leon Tiffin of Portales and Gerald Tiffin of Cashion, OK; a sister, Laverna Brewer of Portales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Thelma Starkey of Franklin, TX, and Ramona Berry of Portales, and two brothers, Caroll Tiffin of Rockland, ME, and Curtis Tiffin of Portales.
