— Albert "Al" A. Harbulak, 279 Koehler Drive, Sharpsville, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, in Bentley House, Hermitage. He was 92.
He was born July 1, 1917, in Sharon, a son of Albert and Mary Margaret (Grega) Harbulak.
Al graduated from Farrell High School, class of 1936. He enlisted in the Army in March 1941 and served with the 450th Army Corps of Engineers. He saw action during World War II in Morocco, Tunisia, Rome-Arno, France, The Rhineland and Central Europe.
He married Gertrude Kolibash on Dec. 28, 1941. She died July 17, 1996.
Al was chief of security for more than 40 years for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.
He was member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where he was an usher for more than 20 years, and belonged to the Sharpsville Service Club, playing Santa for more than 20 years, bringing Christmas gifts to three generations of children in several cases. His other memberships included the Slovak Home, Farrell; Sharon Elks Lodge 103; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338, Sharon; and American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
For more than 35 years, Al was very active in the local Republican Party.
Al was a wonderful father and grandfather, who was active in his children's and grandchildren's lives and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: a son, Tom Harbulak, Daytona Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Janet Mertens, wife of Tom, Oceanside, Calif., and Jane Biro, Sharpsville; a sister, Eleanor Frye, wife of Edwin, Hermitage; two granddaughters, Mellissa Herriott and Rachel Biro; and a grandson, Aaron Biro.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edmund and Fredrick.

Service: A brief prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (2-17-10) in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Hermitage, with the Rev. J. Thomas Dugan officiating.
Burial: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
