Joseph Duda, 86, of Farmington, No. 9 Community, passed away Sunday (Feb. 14, 2010) at his residence.He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Garrett County, Md., a son of the late Joseph and Sophia Knovic Duda.Joseph was a coal miner for Consolidation Coal Co., working at the No. 9 and Loveridge mines, retiring with 43 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA, and he enjoyed gardening, hunting and trout fishing in Franklin.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie McCann Duda; a daughter, Emily "Cookie" Carpenter and companion Patrick O'Dell of No. 9; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a nephew, Anthony and Cathy Varajao of New York; and several additional nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Delimpo, and a son, Joseph Edmund Duda. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Edmund Duda, and two sisters, Virginia Varajao and Wanda Duda.Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington at a later date.
