Wife of writer Dick Francis, whom she married in June 1947. Mary Francis was an honors graduate of Royal Holloway College in London, and had published two short stories. She was responsible for the laborious research evident in each Dick Francis novel and was always credited for her work. "She's my only editor, really," Dick Francis said in 1992. Mary Francis died on Grand Cayman in her husband's arms.
