Lt. Colonel Adolph C. Jacobsmeyer, DSN 1019, received his commission and entered the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Departments academy on 03/27/1939. After graduating from the academy his first uniform assignment was the 5Th District in the summer of 1939. On 10/06/1945 while he was a 5Th District officer he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Secret Service Division. Very few officers were promoted early in their careers. This in itself should tell anybody what type of police officer this young man was. He went on to serve as a Sergeant in the 10Th District, 9Th District and then the Secret Service Division. While he was assigned to the Secret Service Division he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 11/21/1953 and was transferred to the Juvenile Division as the Deputy Commander. While he was in the Juvenile Division he was promoted to the rank of Captain on 06/03/1958, and became the Commander of the Juvenile Division. On 12/18/1964 Captain Jacobsmeyer assignment was changed to the Office of the Chief of Police and remained there for only 2 days when he was promoted to the rank of Major on 12/20/1964. On 01/01/1965 he went to the Bureau of Field Operations as the Divisions Commander. While assigned to the B.F.O. on 02/27/1970 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and remained in that division. On 10/11/1974 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police and transferred on 10/14/1974 to his last assignment at the Office of the Chief of Police. He remained as the Assistant Chief of Police until his retirement on 11/15/1978. At that time he had completed 41.96 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Police Department. During his career he was awarded 1 Letter of Honorable Mention for outstanding police work on 02/101/1941. Lt. Colonel Jacobsmeyer's son Steven Jacobsmeyer, also followed in the footsteps of his father on the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department and became the 2Nd generation in the family to have a distinguished career with the department retiring at the rank of Captain.
