May Yoble, the daughter of Frank and Sadie Powlishta Yoble, was born near Barneston on Oct. 7, 1887 and passed away June 9, 1956. She had reached the age of 68 years, 8 months and 2 days.

Her mother died when she was six months old so was taken to Iowa to live with her grandmother where she remained until she was 10 years old, at which time she rejoined her father near Barneston to get acquainted with her new mother, sister and brother. The family moved near DuBois in 1908. She was dedicated to God in holy baptism Dec. 16, 1906. at DuBois.

On Nov. 5, 1907, she was united in marriage to Frank Stepan. To this union three children were born. Her husband preceded her in death in 1933, at which time she faced the duty of raising her children alone. One son, Milan, joined his father in eternal rest in 1938.

In 1942 after her children were married, she moved to Lincoln where she married Henry Schlechte Nov. 5, 1945.

Surviving besides her husband are two children, Ivan Stepan of Seneca and Wilma Steeves of Omaha; sisters, Maggie Luke, Delavan, Wisc., Blanche Chauza, DuBois, Lillian Votroubek, Long Beach, Calif., Olga Fankhauser, Bakersfield, Calif. and one brother, Edmund Yoble, DuBois; nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and hosts of friends.

She was very much devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held June 12 at Hodgeman-Splain funeral home in Lincoln with burial in Lincoln Memorial Park. Pall bearers were mephews, Glenn and Arnold Chauza, Floyd and Dean Yoble, Owen Andrews and Oreon Spring.
