Michael J. Creighton, the son of John and Catherine Creighton, was born 11 November 1859 in Proten, Gray, Ontario. He came with his parents to Republic County, Kansas.
He was a printer's apprentice at The Belleville Telescope and other papers in the Belleville area. In 1890, he became the manager of the Pomeroy-Gulick and Buckley store in Hill City, Graham County, Kansas. After his time at the store, he operated a cream station for two years, then combined it with the state depository for school books. Eventually, he closed the cream station and expanded the depository to include school furniture business. Due to failing health, he retired in 1929.
He married Melissa E. Dazey on 25 March 1907.
On 29 November 1932, he died at his home at the age of 78 years and 18 days. He was survived by his wife, seven sisters and four brothers. He had been a member of the Masonics and the Modern Woodsmen.
