CHERRYVILLE Mrs. Stella Jane Clark Carpenter, 89, of 6406 Highway 182, died peacefully at home, May 12, 2004, after a long illness.
Mrs. Carpenter was born Dec. 27, 1914, the youngest of seven children of the late James Wiley and Delia Ann Beam Clark. She married Solothiel Stowe Carpenter on Aug. 29, 1939. Mr. Carpenter preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Henry Clark and four sisters, Elizabeth Anthony, Eliza Clark, Fuscia Ford and L.D. Hoyle.
Mrs. Carpenter grew up in Crouse, attended Tryon Schools and Appalachian State Teachers College for two years. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. She joined Bethlehem United Methodist Church after her marriage and was a faithful member, organist, choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was woman of great faith, with a generous and loving heart!
Visitation will be held at Carpenters Funeral Home, Cherryville, on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
