Nobility, son of Ludwig I and Ludmilla of Bohemia. He succeeded his father in 1228 as count palatine of Rhine and in 1231 as duke of Bavaria. He married Agnes in 1222 in Worms.
When his mother's sons from her first marriage died, Otto was able to acquire their white and blue colored lozenge flag which since that time has been the flag of Bavaria (and of the Palatinate).
