Noted Indiana artist who studied with Eaton, Bierstadt and Inness. Influenced by the Hudson River School, he was one of the first artists to paint in Brown County, Indiana. He was especially known for his paintings of beech woods, though he also painted portraits and other subjects.
Son of Methodist minister William Washington Snyder and Elizabeth C. (Rager) Snyder. The Snyders lived at 127 East First Street in Madison. Rev. Snyder bought the home about 1879 and his son William McKendree Snyder and his wife lived there until their deaths in 1930 and 1934 respectively.
