Nathaniel Sawyer was born in Lancaster, Mass. He died in Springfield, VT. He and a brother were among the first to be buried in the Summer Hill cemetery. Their graves are now under the driveway that faces the Porter Lot. The grave stones were destroyed when the road was built. Nathaniel was a captain of a troop sent to help Fort William Henry in 1757. He was third lieutenant in Col. John Wilcomb's regiment during the Revolutionary War.
