Century - Old Man Taken by Death

Lewisburg (RNS) - Henry L. Ballengee, 100 of Lewisburg died in a Beckley hospital at 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a long illness.

Born at Greenville, March 10, 1866, he was a son of the late John and Sarah Garten Ballengee.

He was a member or the Ronceverte Baptist Church, a Spanish American War veteran and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1489 and a lifetime member of the Legion of the Moose, Kanawha Valley Chapter No. 123. He was a retired carpenter, a farmer and miner.

He had been living with a grandson Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Martin of Lewisburg.

Other survivors include 13 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

The body is at McCray Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Arrangements are incomplete.

Final rites for Henry L. Ballengee, 100, Lewisburg, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of the McGraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Tom Lang in charge. Burial will be in the End of The Trail Cemetery near Clintonville. Ballengee died at 3:30 p.m. Friday in a Beckley hospital after a long illness. Pallbearers will be Tracy Hanson, Harry Loudermilk, Finn Spangler, Eugene Harvey, Hazel Walton and Fred Miller.
