J.G. Bump married Maggie Humes in Meadville, Pennsylvania on 21 March 1866 and had lived for a time in Johnson County, Missouri, before coming here.

J. G. and Maggie Bump arrived in Palo Pinto County in 1876. Mr. Bump was a rancher and farmer during his active life.

Survived by daughters - Mrs. A. E. Cardwell, Mrs. Ella Bump Bowen, Mrs. Emme Bump Smyers, Mrs. George Bump; grandchildren - Mrs. Ruth Teichman, Jim Cardwell, Miss Grace Bowen, R. D. Cardwell, Cornelia Harris.

His daughter's diary suggests her father died at his home near Caddo, Texas. Further research suggests that the family farm crossed the lines between Stephens and Palo Pinto Counties. The family was pioneer residents of Palo Pinto and Stephens Counties.
