This wife, whom he married in Saint Clair County, Illinois, on 29 October 1846, is identified as Frances Evers in the Illinois marriage records, and might have been the daughter of Aloysius and Mariana Ewers. It is believed that she died in childbirth in 1850, because in the federal census of that year, Christian had two young children (one only a month old) but no wife.
