Gary Marc Farwell son of Gary Eugene Farwell of Heglar Idaho and Louise (Funk) Farwell of Burley Idaho, lost his life near Coleman Airfield in Mannheim, Germany when the Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter he was flying in crashed. At the time of the accident he was assigned to G Company the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade based in Stuttgart. His early years were spent in California, Japan and Texas, but he grew up in Orem Utah. He was an Eagle Scout, LDS Missionary, Ricks College and University of Utah graduate. Marc always wanted a military career and had a passion for flying so he enlisted in the Army while living in Virginia in 1996 and advanced to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, Four (CW4). At age of 39, Marc had become a seasoned combat veteran. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and two tours of duty in Afghanistan, Marc flew support, rescue and VIP missions, distinguishing himself, and bringing honor to his family and country. In the 14 years of his military career Marc served with the 2nd Ranger Battalion and the 25th Infantry Division before attending Warrant Officer Candidate School and then Aviation School at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He earned the Senior Aviator Badge, the Expert Infantryman's Badge the Meritorious Service Medal, the Parachutist Wings and numerous Air Medals-two for valor, including the distinguished Flying Cross.
Marc leaves behind his parents Gary and Louise, wife Tawnya (Spaulding) Farwell and three young children, Ashlyn, Ethan and Isabella. Brothers Robert Francis Farwell, Matthew Blake Farwell and sister Marianne (Farwell) Tullis will forever miss their older brother.
