Gladys Maurine (Molly) Kegler, 89, of Herman, NE died November 14, 2001, at the Tekamah Health and Rehab Center, where she had resided the past six years.

She was born July 13 [sic], 1912, in LaPlata, MO, to Evert N. and Sarah Lenna Lowell Robuck, she was followed by a twin sister, Mildred Pauline (Polly).

She attended rural schools in Missouri and graduated from high school in LaPlata, MO.

Molly and Polly entered nurses training at the Kirksville State Teachers College and graduated in 1934. They worked as registered nurses in St. Louis Maternity hospital for several years.

Molly took Public Health courses at the University of Minnesota and became a school nurse in the Webster Grove, MO public schools. She left in 1942 and became 2nd Lt. in the Army Nurse Corps. She was discharged in 1946 after serving at Ft. Warren, WY; 18 months in England, and Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO.

A year in Alaska with the Alaska Native Service working in hospitals in Skagway and Sitka, was spent before entering the University of Minnesota School of Anesthesia, graduating in 1948. Molly was on staff at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, MN until recalled to active duty during the Korean War. She was stationed in Ft. Belvoir, VA and was discharged in 1955 with a rank of Captain.

On September 14, 1952 she married George W. Kegler, a farmer in Washington County. They adopted three children, John, Tom and Ruth Elizabeth.

Active in the Herman Methodist Church, Riverview Grange and school activities, Molly continued to work her field first at the Dodge County Hospital in Fremont, until the Blair Memorial Community Hospital opened. She joined the staff in 1957 as the only anesthetist and served in the capacity until retirement in 1977.

After retirement Molly and George enjoyed camping and taking tours. They were able to revisit both Alaska and England.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Raymond; twin sister, Polly; and brother-in-law, Mack Kutzner.

Services were held November 19, 2001 at the Herman Community Church in Herman, NE. Burial followed at the Herman Cemetery. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, NE, was in charge of arrangements.
