George W. Clifford Sr., 80, of Lowell Road, a retiree of the state Department of Transportation, died Friday, May 31, 1985, after a long illness.
He was employed by Revere for 21 years before joining the state DOT. He worked for the state for 13 years, retiring in 1975.
Mr. Clifford was born in Rome March 8, 1905, son of George W. and Margaret Palmer Clifford. He attended St. Aloysius Academy. On Oct. 16, 1948 he married Elizabeth Wheeler in St. Peter's Church.
Mr. Clifford was a member of St. Peters Church and its Ushers Society, the Fourth Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, and the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center. He was a former member and past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a former member and secretary of Local 1016 of the Carpenters Union.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Lonnie (Carol) Tomlin, of Colonie, Mrs. David (Christine) Adsit Sr., Boonville, and Mrs. Stephen (Patricia) Payne, Hayward, Calif., a son, George W. Clifford Jr., Albany, and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
