George W. Cook, 88 was a resident of Olney for a number of years.

George W. Cook came to Texas with his parents when was one year old. He and his wife met as children in Ellis County where the families had settled. They were school child sweethearts. In 1897, his wife's family moved to Guadalupe and young George Cook who had become a farmer, went to Guadalupe to marry and bring his bride home.

The couple married 21 December 1898 at Guadalupe, Texas.

The Cook's moved to Montague County, Texas after marriage and returned to Olney in 1910.

George Cook was president of the Stephens-Roach store, one of the largest mercantile establishments in Olney. He later operated a general store at Padgett.

In 1925, the couple moved to Seymour where Mr. Cook owned Cook's Chevrolet. In 1932, the couple moved to Weslaco, where Cook had a grapefruit farm and also operated a feed and seed store. In 1944, the couple came back to Olney to make their home. Mr. Cook has been a real estate agent in Olney since 1944.

A member of First Baptist Church, Cook was a deacon in Olney and a councilman in Olney. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

All three of their living children and their families were present at their 50th wedding anniversary celebration: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook and Russell of Olney, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Cook of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Skrabanek of Houston.

Services were officiated by Rev. Ira A. Bentley of Fort Worth and Rev. Paul Powell, pastor of Olney First Baptist Church.

Survived by one son - Frank Cook of Olney; one daughter - Mrs. Ray Skrabanek of Fort Worth; two grandson; two great-grandsons; one brother - Tom Cook of Fort Worth.
