Robert W. McDermott Dead in Canandaigua

February 17, 1988

Robert W. McDermott, 68, formerly of 206 Michigan Ave., died Wednesday at the Canandaigua Veteran's Administration Hospital, where he had been a patient since 1980, suffering from Alzheimers disease.

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the D. L. Calarco Funeral Home, and 1:00 p. m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, with Rev. Walter E. Giles, associate rector, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altar Guild of Trinity Church or to the Alzheimers Support Group, in care of Kay O'Brien, Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home.

Surviving are two sons, Gary R. And Paul A., both of Watertown; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Altha Rae) O'Driscoll, Watertown; nine grandchildren; a great grandchildren(note:should have been great granddaughter) ; a sister, Mrs. Everett (Ruth) Chrisamore, Watertown; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Charles died in 1977.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, July 1, 1919, a son of Edward and Sylvia Woodman McDermott, he was graduated from Watertown High School in 1937.

He married Virginia Schram April 10, 1939, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Condit N. Eddy officiating. She died March 15, 1986

Mr. McDermott served in the Army's 3rd Infantry Division of the 30th Regiment during World War 2 , seeing duty in the European Theater. He was wounded in combat and was a patient at the Percy Jones General Hospital, Battle Creek, Michigan, for two years. He was awarded the Purple in 1945.

He was later employed as a supervisor of the quality control department at the New York Air Brake Co. For 25 years, retiring Feb. 11, 1976.

He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 49 F&AM and American Legion Post 61.
