August Custer, 73, prominent Duck Lake
community farmer, died this morning at
his home on R.D. 1 Olivet. He had been
in ill health for five years and seriously
ill for two weeks.

Mr. Custer was born Sept. 15 1875 in Rankin,
Illinois, the son of Casper and Caroline Custer,
and had been a resident of this community
for 40 years.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Hattie (Walters)
Custer, to whom he was married Feb. 27
1899; seven daughters, Mrs. Alice Short,
Mrs. Pearl Mooney, Mrs. Nellie Marks, and
Mrs. Mabel Stone, all of Albion,
Mrs. Lydia Miney, Benton Harbor,
Mrs. Florence O'Brinski, Olivet, and
Mrs. Thelma Eckhart, Mason; five sons,
John & Earl Custer, Battle Creek, Russell
Custer, Eaton Rapids, and Clarence & Samuel,
Custer, Olivet; 33 grandchildren; 10 great
grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie
Kappler, Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Caroline "Carrie" Haenggi, Olney, Ill.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at
two p.m. at the Burkhead Funeral Home in
Olivet. Rev. Arie Binkhorst officiating;
with interment in the Clarence Center
Cemetery.
