Services for Robert Gaston Hallam, 47, were held at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Smith, Rev. Taylor, Rev. Bowman and Rev. Evans officiating. The ministers were the pastors of the First Baptist Church, First Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church and Christian Church in Graham.
Mr. Hallam graduated from Grayson College in Whitewright. He was a graduated of Carlysle Military Academy. Mr. Hallam's first career was a school teacher.
Robert Hallam married Miss Mary Taylor on 27 August 1904 at 5:00 a.m. in the living room of her parent's home so they could get to Italy and catch the Katy Flyer to St. Louis for the World's Fair. Robert Hallam taught school at Avalon. In 1906, he taught at Carlisle Military Academy because it was half-way between Dallas and Fort Worth. The couple came to Graham in 1906 from Avalon, Texas.
Mr. Hallam was a member of the Graham Masonic Lodge, Woodmen of the World and an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
Bob Hallam went into the concrete block business and had a littel factory. Of the buildings he constructed, there are three that remain in Graham. He decided to go into the grocery business, but disliked selling groceries on Sunday. Bob Hallam had a general merchandise store, then became a cotton buyer, buying and selling on the square. He was a member of the board of directors with the Guaranty State Bank. At the time of his death, he was in the oil business.
Mr. Hallam was originally buried in the Oak Grove cemetery. His remains wre later moved to Dallas, Texas and he was entombed in the Mausoleum at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.
