Rolla Daily News, Monday, 16 February 1987: VERNA BLACKWELL..A graveside service for Verna Blackwell of Rolla was conducted by the Reverend Bill Hathaway at 10 AM today, 16 Feb 1987 at the Rolla Cemetery under the direction of the Atkisson-Swinford Funeral Home. Mrs. Blackwell died Saturday at Phelps County Regional Medical Center. She was 71. She had been a Rolla resident since 1938. Her husband Lee Roy died in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Eddie Ellis of Dixon and Johnny Ellis of Rolla, one sister, Muriel Collier of Rolla, two brothers, Ira Barnhart of Dixon and Ray Barnhart of Pekin, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
Note: Ref call to Mrs. Muriel Collier on 4-25-93, The Ellis brothers belonged to a deceased sister, and it was her request that Verna take the boys and raise them. Mrs Collier stated that there were no previous marriages for Verna. "Verna and Lee Blackwell did not have any children"
