Rome - Charles E. Wheeler, 56, of 21 Byers Ave, Portsmouth, Va, died Aug 17, 1952 at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Oakes Ferguson, 817 Calvert St., after a short illness.

He was born April 5, 1896, at Vienna, a son of Arthur D. and Flora Wyman Wheeler. on Sep 2, 1930, in Rome, he married Irene E. Ferguson, who survives.

A marine engineer at Norfolk Naval Yards, he had lived in Portsmouth for the pat 12 years. he served 18 months in the Navy in World War I as an aviation machinist mate.

He was a member of the Masonic fraternity of Rome and Royal Arch Masons 193.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Dorothy F. Wheeler and Ruth C. Wheeler, both at home, two sons, Arthur C., a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and Robert E., at home, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Thomas, Rome.

Funeral will be held Wednesday from the home of his mother-in-law, Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
